It has come to the attention of Coventry Trading Standards that once again, some elderly local residents are receiving telephone calls from mobility companies from outside the area. As before, it is to persuade people to agree to make appointments to view mobility aids, and from the initial call, it is not apparent that a sales visit is being booked. We are also aware that some complainants are Telephone Preference Service registered, and should not receive sales calls of any description.
I t is advisable never to accept appointments from unsolicited phone calls. Whilst the legislation gives a cancellation period of 7 days after date of delivery, quite often, the consumers are not aware of this, or they will offer verbal cancellation rather than written, which the company will later deny.
This part of the system is not in operation. You can contact Housing Associations direct to enquire whether they are operating a mutual exchange service However some of the partners are members of a national mutual exchange system known as Homeswapper. WE NOW HAVE OVER 13000 APPLICANTS REGISTERED ON OUR SYSTEM AND WE ESTIMATE THERE WILL BE IN THE REGION OF 2000 VACANCIES EACH YEAR. FOR SOME APPLICANTS THERE WILL BE A LONG WAIT FOR HOUSING.
1. YOU ARE ABLE TO REGISTER ON COVENTRY HOMEFINDER FROM THE AGE OF 16 YEARS. YOU NEED TO BE AWARE THAT IF YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL IN BIDDING FOR A PROPERTY PRIOR TO YOUR 18th BIRTHDAY HOUSING ASSOCIATIONS MAY OVERLOOK YOU UNTIL YOU REACH THE AGE OF 18 YEARS.
2. IF YOU COMPLETE AN ONLINE APPLICATION AND YOU ARE A PERSON FROM ABROAD AND NOT HABITUALLY RESIDENT IN THE UK IT IS POSSIBLE YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGBLE TO REGISTER. IF YOU HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE YOU ARE ELIGBLE WHEN COMPLETING THE APPLICATION FORM PLEASE PROVIDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS AS THIS WILL BE THE ONLY FORM OF COMMUNICATION WE WILL USE.
3. PLEASE NOTIFY US IF YOU HAVE ANY CHANGES IN CIRCUMSTANCES, IF YOU HAVE CHANGED ADDRESS OR YOU HAVE A NEW TELEPHONE NUMBER. IT IS IMPORTANT YOU KEEP US INFORMED OF YOUR CONTACT DETAILS AS YOU MAY BE OVERLOOKED FOR AN OFFER IF WE CANNOT CONTACT YOU.
4. IF YOU HAVE RENT ARREARS TO A PARTNER HOUSING ASSOCIATION YOU NEED TO BE AWARE THAT IF YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL IN BIDDING FOR A PROPERTY YOU MAY BE OVERLOOKED DUE TO ANY OUTSTANDING HOUSING DEBT. PLEASE CONTACT THE HOUSING ASSOCIATION TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO CLEAR YOUR ARREARS TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT.

Existing applicants on our partners' waiting lists have been transferred onto the new Coventry Homefinder register. A letter has been sent to advise all existing applicants of their new registration number and full details of how to use the service. If you are not registered with us you can register on this site. We aim to give you more choice in deciding where you want to live. Properties that are available for rent, will be advertised each week. You can then tell us which properties you are interested in. This process is known as bidding. You may only bid for a property if your application has been accepted onto our housing register. You can then bid for three properties in each week. The bidding cycle starts on a Thursday and ends on a Tuesday each week.
