Step 2 - Choosing

Advertising Properties

Properties are advertised each week from Thursday to the following Tuesday (midnight).  Please be aware that properties are not advertised on Wednesday and you can not bid on Wednesday.

Properties are advertised in the following ways:

  • Via Property Search on this website. Free internet access is available at city libraries.
  • In our Weekly Property List. This is available at locations around the city. It is available from the Housing and Benefits Advice Centre (Spire House), libraries, housing association offices and some advice centres.

The advert will show the landlord, location, size, rent and other features of the property to help you decide which properties are right for you.

Where available a photograph of the property or a similar house type is provided and you can access information about the local area and facilities.

The advert also tells you if there are any special requirements that the applicant must meet, such as age requirements and how the shortlist of bids will be prioritised for each property.

A range of symbols are used to tell you about the property:

 1 Bed  2 Bed

The number of bedrooms in the property

The property advertised is sheltered or
extra care sheltered housing
 Minimum age  Maximum age
The minimum or maximum age that an applicant must be to apply for the property (age restriction will be displayed within the icon when viewed on the Property website or the Newsletter)

The property has a garden

Off road parking is available at the property

The property is wheelchair accessible or has been adapted and priority will be given to households assessed as needing these adaptations.

Expressing Your Interest in a Property

To apply for a property you must tell us that you wish to be considered for it. This is known as 'bidding'.

You can express your interest or bid, in one of the following ways:

  • Online through our website by logging in to your account - Login/My Account
  • By telephoning our 24hr automated bidding line on 0845 270 1274
  • By using our kiosk in the Housing Advice Centre. Our staff will be happy to show you how to do this.

You can bid for a maximum of 3 properties during the time they are advertised. Properties are advertised each week from Thursday to the following Tuesday (midnight).  Please be aware that properties are not advertised on Wednesday and you can not bid on Wednesday.

You will only be able to bid for a property that is suitable for your family size. Click Step One-Registration for the maximum number of bedrooms that you are entitled to.

Please note:

  • Bids are shortlisted at the end of the bidding period, based on priority banding and the effective/registration date of everyone that has placed a bid. There is no advantage to placing bids early in the bidding period.
  • When you bid for a property, you will be informed of your current position in the shortlist. However, as more people place bids throughout the bidding period, your position may change. You are advised to check your bid positions near to the end of the bidding period, in order to make the best use of your bids.
