Accessibility statement for Coventry Homefinder
Our Commitment to Accessibility
We are committed to ensuring our website is accessible to all users, including those with visual impairments, other disabilities, older users, or those with slow internet connections or outdated software. This website is designed to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, enabling everyone to understand, navigate, contribute to, and use its interactive services.
Conformance Status
This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA due to the limitations listed below under "Known Limitations", as verified by an accessibility audit conducted on 27 June 2025.
Accessibility Features
- Text Size Adjustment: Our website supports text resizing up to 400% without loss of content or functionality. Use Ctrl + (Windows) or Cmd + (Mac) to zoom, adjust settings in your browser’s ‘View’ menu, or use pinch-to-zoom on mobile devices. Learn more about it here https://abilitynet.org.uk/search?key=text size.
- Text Alternatives: All images and graphics conveying important information include text alternatives compatible with screen readers, per WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.1.1.
- Translation: A Google Translate widget is available in the bottom right corner of most pages to view the website in languages other than English (note: automated translations may not be fully accurate).
Accessibility Measures
- We conduct regular accessibility audits using tools like WAVE and axe to ensure WCAG 2.2 AA compliance. This website uses HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, tested for compatibility with assistive technologies like JAWS and VoiceOver.
Legal Compliance
- We comply with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018, which requires WCAG 2.2 AA conformance for public entity websites.
Known Limitations
We strive for full accessibility but acknowledge the following issues:
- Google Translate Widget at 200% Zoom: When zoomed to 200% or higher, the language selection menu in the Google Translate widget, a third-party plugin, may be cut off, making some language options not fully visible. This impacts WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 1.4.4 (Resize Text).
- FAQ Section on the Help page: In the Frequently Asked Questions section, some interactive controls (e.g. links) contain focusable child elements, causing navigation issues for screen reader users as these elements are included in the tab order but not properly announced. This impacts WCAG 2.2 Success Criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value). We are revising the FAQ section’s HTML structure to ensure interactive controls are not nested.
- Certain ARIA roles not contained by particular parent elements: Some ARIA roles on various pages are not properly nested within their required parent elements, which may affect screen reader compatibility.
